Facebook Design 2.0
If you haven’t checked it out and you’re an avid user, do so immediately: http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php
I am not a fan and have sent in plenty of feedback to the Send Feedback link. It looks like they just stretched out the pages and added in more ads. If you’re going to do a redesign at least add in some new features. Am I missing them? Here is a review to the site updates, just nothing I have found really useful.

CS3 Finally Launches!
I’m overly excited for the launch of CS3 today. I don’t remember being this excited for CS2, so it must be their intensive marketing plan. Marketers get me every time, a good reason why I have four ipods (one of each kind :). Maybe it’s the fact that next week I’ll be at Photoshop World in Boston (which is now sold out). Maybe it’s just the fact that I use products like Photoshop everyday and I love it. Either way today is a big day for most designers; the software they use at the core of their business is getting a big upgrade. It is all over the news today.

Developers come and get it…
Adobe just announced that Apollo is available at Adobe Labs.

“Apollo enables developers to create applications that combine the benefits of web applications – network and user connectivity, rich media content, ease of development, and broad reach – with the strengths of desktop applications – application interactions, local resource access, personal settings, powerful functionality, and rich interactive experiences.”
From Adobe Kevin Lynch:
“Apollo is designed to bridge the world of Web applications and desktop computers. Applications written for Apollo function like normal Web applications but act like locally installed software. For example, Apollo applications will have an icon that shows up on a computer desktop and will be able to automatically reconnect when a computer gets online.”
So what are you waiting for, go get the download!

My 10 Seconds with Lowey
I am excited to announce that David Lowey has launched his blog titled, Where My Mind has Wandered. Reliability, superior work, dedication, commitment, and excellent leadership abilities come to mind when I think of Lowey. He is one of the founders of my company’s Interactive (now Digital) group. He is a PR guru by trade, with the eye of a Creative Designer (hard to find). He has literally done it all and founded it all at our company. From design, video, event production, to branding, when you have a creative brainstorm he is the man to call. I literally wait in line at his door for my 10 seconds, and there is always a line. He sets the standard of great work, if Lowey says your work is good, then you know it is. I can’t wait to see what all he writes.

A Dash of Color
I get asked this a lot from novice Photoshop users. How do you make those black and white photos with a dash of color in them? A lot of photographers offer these to customers and it really brings out that wow factor. It is probably one of the easiest photos to do, so I thought I would share how it is done here.
Get a photo that you want to bring out one object in that photo. I’m using a flag on a building I took a picture of on Wall Street this past Fall.

1. Open the file and select Image->Adjustments-> Desaturate

2. Select the History Brush

3. Make your brush size small enough to work with but big enough to see (around 8-15) and change the Harness to 100%

4. With the History Brush you can “paint” back the color of your image. I choose the red stripes in the main flag. Use the magnifying tool to get more exact in your brushing.

Ta Da! Not so hard right? If you ever want a specific tutorial done let me know. If I know how to do it I’ll make sure to post a tutorial on it. If I don’t, I’ll ask some other designers and see if I can learn how to do it as well.
