Media Meshing is a monthly afterwork bar night bringing New York media types together. Think of it as “real life” social networking. Anyone involved in media is invited, old or new, print or web, etc.

Actual media meshing is described simply as using an independent piece of media, such as a blog or a website, to enhance the experience of another piece. This is just like that, except with people and alcohol.

Yahoo! Pipes almost two weeks old

I don’t know about you but I have fallen in love with Yahoo! Pipes. After figuring out how it worked, and waiting for the site to stop crashing (the pipes were clogged the first day), I see nothing but opportunity here.

Pipes is an interactive feed aggregator and manipulator. Using Pipes, you can create feeds that are more powerful, useful and relevant.

Pipes allow anyone to create web mashups, and they don’t need any programming knowledge, and I would argue that they don’t need to be technical either. I made a few of my own pipes in about an hour. The longest part was figuring out what sources I wanted to search, how I wanted it organized, and what reader I wanted to pull them into. Then I browsed other people’s pipes and copied a few that I thought were useful. For instance there is popular pipe that takes a feed from the New York Times, and matches up keywords with Flickr. Then Nick Bradbury came up with one that links to YouTube videos of the top 10 songs on iTunes.

Let me know if you’ve created any good mashups that others should check out! They feature their hot pipes on the home page of the site. Along with their avatars.
