Internet TV, more than just a TV-like Experience for Viewers

With YouTube dominating the web, and start-ups like Joost inking major deals, it looks like Internet TV is only just beginning.  Where is this all heading?  To sites like Funny or Die?  A site started by funny man Will Ferrell, where the rating system goes as follows:

RATING SYSTEM
(how funny)

4-5 = Immortal
3-4 = Walking Tall
2-3 = Kinda Cute
1-2 = Uh - Oh
0-1 = The Crypt

You must have at least 50,000 views to be immortal, 1,000 to be in the crypt. If you drop below .5 you end up in the crypt no matter what.

With original content and quality video getting better with each new start up, those in the IT field better be ready to step it up a notch.  Sounds like a good challenge to me.  Any other sites that I’m missing and should check out on this subject?

Speaking on the Potential of a Career in IT

I was recently asked to be on a panel of IT professionals at St. Louis University (my undergraduate university). I majored in both Management Information Systems and Marketing there.

The Event Details:

Tuesday, March 27, 2007; in the Anheuser-Busch auditorium of the Cook Business School Building on the SLU campus (3764 Lindell Blvd.).

Lunch will be served following the seminar and we view this as a time for significant informal interaction with students.

The activity is being sponsored by the Society for Information management (SIM) and Microsoft. We will also be raffling items of interest to students including a Microsoft Xbox.

I’ll be discussing what I do at my job and where I see the IT industry going. Not sure what I’m exactly going to say yet, but I’m hoping I can play off the questions that I’m asked. I will be touching on Social Media and the role IT plays to support the new communication tools on the web. Luckily, I’ll be on a panel with three other SLU alum’s that work at different companies in the local area that hour. Speakers from Microsoft, AT&T, Anheuser Busch, Enterprise Rental Car, and Monsanto will also be on hand. If anyone has anything good they think the next generation of IT professionals should be aware of let me know. Below is the flyer for the event.
