Facebook and MySpace fight for Business to use their Platform

Now I’m not talking about ads.  I’m talking about a clean page which can be an extension of their brand in the social media arena.   On this new page you can find other extensions of their social media activities like twitter, flickr, and rss feeds.  Take a look at the great job AT&T has done with it.  TechCrunch is covering all the new features that will be launched in the next few weeks.  Facebook details:

Look for a much more streamlined look to Facebook Pages next week though, with a multitab interface very similar to what Facebook launched to users in 2008. The default view will show the Wall (which may include negative comments unless they are routinely deleted). All the custom apps will be pushed to a second Boxes tab. The Pages will also likely mirror the look of normal user profiles, with an image in the top left corner, etc.

MySpace’s piece in this.
Charlie Rose - Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson

Good luck to them.  I definitely think it’s a great idea.  Hopefully they maintain it.  With anything in social media, that’s half the battle.

It’s obvious that politics are now in full swing.  It seems like every vote counts this time around, there is no clear front runner.  The politicians are all over the social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace.  Check out Hillary go for the youth vote on YouTube.

Preliminary Election using the power of Web 2.0…

The press release has gone out about a pre-election vote to be held on January 2008 on MySpace. I assume the candidates must have a MySpace profile to participate. MySpace has an Impact page where you can check out all of the candidates.

Now, is this vote based on the amount of friends they have? If so what do they do with the wishy washy friends like me who have them all as friends? Honestly, my vote is up for grabs. I normally change my vote up until the day of the election. I want to hear what you have to say but you need to reach me and others my age where we want to be reached,  MySpace is a good start. Make sure you do it right though. The fact that Giuliani has his account as Private is already a miss from the start. What is he hiding? Also, MySpace is not a Web site where you go in occasionally and post your information, ask for donations and expect the votes to flow in. It’s a collaboration site. Whenever I add a band, a product, or any other obvious marketing MySpace account I like to get notes from them.  A comment on my board or I want to see a bulletin about what they’re up to. Post a blog that I can subscribe to on MySpace.  I haven’t really seen any of the politicians take advantage of this. I guard who I let in as friends and clean it up regularly so if you post a comment on my board my friends see it and take it seriously. I know that I do when others post on my friends boards. I guess they have until January to get the hang of it. They need to realize as unforgiving the blogosphere is, so are social networking sites. Once I delete you as a friend good luck getting back in.

How much will the politicians really take these results into consideration? Will this cause a wave of elections in Web 2.0 sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and SecondLife? Either way this has the possibility to be great and just as much possibility to flop. Off base?
