Holiday Gift in Wabi-Sabi form

After an up and down week I sat down with holiday gift list.  I watched the highs of Black Friday this past week.  As well as the lows of watching many of my friends being laid off from my company this week.  It definitely took a toll on me and my holiday list.  I want to give those I love gifts from me that simple but would mean a lot to them.  It seems foolish to spends hundreds of dollars when no job is really safe.  For that reason i’ve decided to give my cousin a web site.  Something he needs as a dj, and something that i’m good at.  Below are my outlines and benchmarks for getting this done.  Hopefully 3 weeks will be enough time!

America’s Next Top Avatar?

I guess it was coming. With the success of Avatar’s comes this opportunity to really pimp your avatar out in hopes of winning an avatar portfolio and critiques on beauty and styling for both online and offline versions of you.
“In addition, the model-wannabes will each receive virtual versions of a bottle of M by Mariah Carey, along with a Ford Models portfolio book.

“MTV Networks is attempting to define virtual beauty for the masses. The media company has announced plans to search for the world’s first virtual supermodel through a partnership with Ford Models and Elizabeth Arden – the producer of the perfume M by Mariah Carey.”

I’m not surprised by this, and I think that’s a little scary. Most people on the web have avatars, whether on Instant Messaging Services or virtual worlds. Adrants reports that last month, Evian provided skin-oriented beauty tips for parched Second Life citizens.

I’m actually excited to see how it goes. I better give my avatar a makeover.

Twitter gets Hip

When I first got into Twitter, I was excited to follow my favorite bloggers, and news publications. Then I decided to Twitter myself, since it’s faster and less time consuming then writing a full out blog post. Let’s be honest, sometimes you just have a one liner to share. Now I have a new reason to love Twitter. It’s gotten hip. That’s right; it has a partnership with VMA’s airing in September on MTV (I work for the Digital Group there). The premise is follow the MTVMoonman! The MTVMoonman is known by all generation X, Y, and Zers. It’s a great way for Twitter to hit the young demographic as well as MTV to branch out into new Social Media sites and Trends. I love the idea and can’t wait to see what other corporations come up with.
