Adobe Markets to the Masses

Adobe is a brand that all designers, developers, and illustrators know and trust. Each of their products is robust and has continued to evolve over the years. Each time a new edition of Photoshop comes out I’m excited by the added features, but also intimidated by all it has to offer.  One task can literally be done multiple ways within Photoshop.  That’s why I steer away from showing other designers how I do things because you really have to find what works best for you.  I get asked to teach someone Photoshop on a weekly if not daily basis when they really don’t need all the bells and whistles it has to offer. Today on Mac and Windows at a reasonable price of $100, Photoshop Elements Version 6 will be released. It’s the stripped down version of Photoshop which has everything the masses needs. It even has a “guided” edit tour that offers a step-by-step guide for new users. Here’s the information on their site and here’s Wired’s write up  on the product.

They also have Premiere Elements 4 for windows users that want all the video editing tools that Apple makes available to Mac users in iMovie.

“Like iMovie, Premiere Elements 4 makes it easy for you to edit camcorder footage — complete with music, titles and transition effects — then share your creations on a DVD or upload the video directly to YouTube, all in about an hour. Elements have one simple toolbar and a context-sensitive work area that adjusts itself according to whatever editing task you’re doing.”

“We’ve taken that Adobe magic the pros use and simplified it,” says Jim Mohan, Adobe director of product management for digital imaging and digital video. “We’ve made many of the complicated editing tasks in Photoshop really easy.”

I know I sound like an advertisement today but I think these products are far superior to products such as paint.  The designers you work with will thank you for not ruining photos by editing them in paint as well.
