Take Part in Blog Action Day

On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind - the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future.

Bloggers Unite - Blog Action Day

This is a great way to get more attention towards a cause that desparately needs it. Al Gore winning the noble peace prize this past week definitely is getting more people talking and working towards a solution. Today, Blog Action Day, will hopefully get this cause to the next level of awareness.

My focus for this day and this upcoming year is the awareness we as consumers give to the usage of plastic bottles. Ever since bottled water came out, the usage of these plastic bottles have grown. Landfills are growing to enormous sizes and recycling rates continue to remain low.

According to a 2001 report of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), roughly 1.5 million tons of plastic are expended in the bottling of 89 billion liters of water each year. Americans buy about 215 billion beverage containers every year. The Container Recycling Institute reports that an average of 490 beverage containers are recycled per person per year in bottle-bill states. Eleven states — California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Oregon and Vermont.

Please take part in this important day. Recylce a bottle, find out if your state is working towards a bottle-bill, or just opt for tap water instead a bottled water. There is a lot you can do, and awareness is the first step.
