YouTube captures all the Superbowl ads and Ranks them like Digg
Now there is one place to check out all the Superbowl ads that aired last night. Looks like they’re going for the Digg factor as well. My favorite commercial was the Sierra Mist Comb-over. What was yours?

Daily Show fans are the Market?
I have always been a fan of Jon Stewart and how can you not admire Bill Gates. I absolutely love it when the Daily Show has politicians and technology experts on the show. The dynamic of them with Jon is more then enjoyable to watch. You can see how nervous the guests are, because Jon Stewart is no David Letterman, and the opening skits are nothing like a top ten list. Jon throws in little digs that the guests don’t always get, and has no problem calling people out. I think that is why I like the show so much. Any show that spins off Stephen Colbert’s show is tops in my book. The other night Bill Gates appeared as part of his big media blitz for Vista. Besides abruptly leaving at the end I thought the interview made me like Gates and even as much as to want to check out his Vista product (even though I love my mac). I must admit that good marketing gets me every time though. I do have 4 ipods at home. This huge PR push for Vista has had it’s bumps but I see it working out for Gates. I wonder what they’ll do when he finally steps down.

Is Microsoft Marketing to Yuppies and Hipsters?
There’s a new viral video that seems to be popping up everywhere I look lately. Is it really a Microsoft corporate video though? My only thought is that they’re targeting this video towards Yuppies and Hipsters that are big on viral videos and social networking sites (mainly where I’ve seen it). Just check out the comments on the YouTube site. The message is unclear. Why are so many companies trying to hide who they are in their marketing techniques lately.
With all of the Apple computer commercials showing Microsoft as old and inflexible, is this their anti-Apple video? It is nothing like the Apple commercials and to me makes Microsoft look like they’re trying too hard to be hip. Is it really them though or another Apple type company trying to make Microsoft look even more un-hip then they’re already perceived by the younger generations?

What am I buying into?
I’m writing this while on a break from my Marketing class. Today’s lecture is on how you spin media and how confusion can be a good thing for the marketer. If your audience has an interpretation of your product that will put it in a favorable light than the job is done right? The problem with that is there are facts missing. Isn’t omission just as bad as lying? Maybe that rule only applied in grade school? A 3 minute spot can’t give you both sides of the story, this works to that marketer’s advantage. The first thing that came to mind when I heard this was all the ads politicians are putting out right now. They’re each selling themselves, and trying to discount their competitors. This takes me to amendment 2. I know, overkill right! Living in a swing state it’s impossible not to hear the messages on this important issue. As we get closer to the election the ads and billboards are increasing in number and in intensity. What are the true bottom lines here though? Well you have one side that talks about saving lives. The other side talks about how cloning is wrong. At least that’s what I’ve been hearing for the past month, as well as a whole bunch of other little messages playing on our emotions. I like to go into the voting booth prepared. The choices you make on Election Day you need to stand behind for years to come. There are some votes, I know I wish I could take back, and I haven’t been voting that long. So, I decided to read amendment 2 over lunch today. Let me tell you, it took the entire lunch period, and was quite a read. I had to know what all it entailed though. I find a lot of people vote off of what they learn from the media. Of course after reading the amendment I decided to talk about it with others, and it was shocking how confused people were on what exactly amendment 2 is about. Some were citing media placements as their point of reference. “Well I was watching the other day and I saw Kurt Warner….” and I really stopped listening after that. They weren’t listening to what Mr. Warner was saying; they wanted to be a part of what he believed in. AHHHHH.
My point is, as awful as it maybe to read something as long and grueling as Amendment 2, don’t vote on it if you don’t know what you’re voting for.
I put in some of the media clips I’ve seen on this. I really can’t wait for Election Day to be over with.
